Issue: Logging in with Internet Explorer - Resolved

Tuesday, 17 October 2006

Summary:
During Thursday last week, people using Internet Explorer to browse their SocialFX website would have lost their authentication cookie and subsequently found they could not log in to their website. Attempts to log in would have failed until around midnight Monday night.

Affected users:
People using Internet Explorer who attempted to log in with their username and password to their SocialFX website on Thursday October 12.

Resolution:
The fault originated with a Windows update that significantly altered security permissions on the server and initially left the SocialFX application unusable. The resolution for this was relatively quick but left a problem in the HTML code that was only apparent using Internet Explorer and only when attempting to log in with username and password.

The most recent fix has corrected the HTML code being generated and this has fixed the problem logging in with Internet Explorer.

Please be aware that Internet Explorer can have problems overwriting existing authentication cookies and if you have been experiencing problems logging in and continue to do so then I recommend that you delete all cookies for your website from Internet Explorer.

To delete the cookie follow *either* of these steps (not both - unless you really want to):

A) Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > Settings... button > View Files... button then find the cookie and delete it

or,

B) Tools > Internet Options > General Tab > Delete Cookies... button

NB: Option B) above will delete all your Internet Explorer cookies.
