File Manager getting bogged down?

Do you notice that the File Manager is taking longer to load up? That could be because all your images are in the top level folder.
If you go to Site Admin you can specify a default folder (eg "images") for images to go into when you use the Image Upload tool.
That way the top level folder won't get too many files and the File Manager will load up more quickly. Try it out - you'll like it.

Things to be aware of when uploading files:

  1. Try to stick to alphanumeric characters in file names. For example, spaces can't be used in a url and will be replaced automatically with either a plus sign (+) or %20. Also, ampersands and other characters are frequently used to hack into servers so any request for a file with an & in it will be rejected by the server.
    Use "and" instead of &.
  2. Optimise images before uploading them. Just resizing the image in the WYSIWYG editor doesn't shrink the file size down. If you're wondering why a small image is taking forever to appear on the page it may be because your cute little snap is actually a 2Mb monster resized thanks to some HTML code. Shrink the file down using your photo editing software on your computer - then upload it.
